On Wednesday night during the second half with Chelsea winning comfortably, Rafa Benitez made a tactical switch that I know would have pleased some Chelsea fans. He moved David Luiz into a holding midfield position!.
With the ball at his feet that night, Luiz was outstanding and he showed just how good he is and can be. His touch was instant, different class and he showed glimpses of what he could offer Rafa Benitez in a midfield position for the remainder of the season.
With Mikel banned for three games and missing games in January due to the African Cup of Nations, David Luiz could partner Oriol Romeu in the middle if Rafa Benitez intends to stick with the 4-2-3-1 formation.
We have all seen at times Luiz and the weakness in his game defending. He has come on leaps and bounds ever since he has been here but is still prone to making the same mistakes.
With him being pushed into midfield with Cahill and Ivanovic behind him, he will have freedom to pick a pass and if anything play the "Alonso role" for Fernando Torres under Benitez. We already saw glimpses of that the other night as he looked to play a ball over the top and in behind for Torres.
One thing Torres has struggled with at Chelsea is knowing that he will have the right service at the right time. He is someone who thrives on playing on the shoulder of the last defender. At the moment, he knows he isn't going to get the ball played in behind or over top so drops deep or moves out wide.
With Luiz playing in this position, looking for the runs of Torres first and foremost, we could see Torres get back near somewhere near his best and his confidence will grow which will help Chelsea's Premier League title challenge (Latest Premier League Odds) and Chelsea's quest for glory this season in World Club Cup, League Cup, FA Cup and Europa League! (Betting on Chelsea with Paddy Power).
David Luiz with the ball at his feet his arguably up there with the best that Chelsea have in the squad and could be the answer that Torres and Benitez have been looking for?

Interesting move...all for it. May prove a master stroke
ReplyDeleteThe problem with pushing Luis into midfield is it leaves us light at the back and with a surplus of players in the middle and would you really leave out someone like ramires for Luiz?
ReplyDelete@Tom..that should be Luiz with Ramirez. The Mikel Ramirez partnership is weak. Lets see what the two samba stars can do. Cahill and Ivanovic can keep central defense
ReplyDeleteU all r funny...I use 2tink torres will hit form, God I use 2blive he is nt passed his best dayz bt nw I kw he is far 4rm were we chelsea fan want him..bcs of d price tag on him he jst can't shake it so no matter who u play him wit he won't deliver jst loan him den I bet u he will hit form wen his back
ReplyDeleteCan u speak English please
ReplyDeletelets see what the samba boys can do in the midfield, pairing ramires with david luiz together.it will be magnificent
ReplyDeleteI like that. Benitez good job. Thats it wil be so good
ReplyDeleteIf such tried against good football team unlike d feeble team played last weds, chelsea will regret such pivot. Kindly stick to Ram-Rom in Mik's absence.
ReplyDeleteWait and see if he actually starts a game like that, against real competition, before we say good for you rafa...
ReplyDeletei think chelsea rily nids 2 giv rafa a chance. His tactical approach 2 d game so far has been good. At dis time, d last things we nid is senseless sentiments. We nid answers and even if our worst enemy is d answer, we nid, den he deserves a chance. As for luiz, he was brilliant in dat defensive midfield. A gud work by rafa 2 put him thre. He makes som occasional flws in defence, so bt is hard-tackling and wins alot of d balls, so pullin him into d midfield a litle is a positiv sign for us. In my opinion, i see him more as d number 4 dat he wears dan d central defender he is struggling to be
ReplyDeleteMy brother we need strong player, like micheal essen our players are okey but when it come interms of enegy power our players always fall behind the game, torres should go and devope his phical out look, he akways fall with a little body contact of his openent, pls bring torres to my jeam just for week trianing i will make him to score in the middle of five openent players.
ReplyDeleteLuis natural role is defensive midfielder cos he started football as a DMF not a CB. He has all d flair for d role so let him play the role which I believe is what d board saw and cooled down on Fellaini. So in Mikels absence let us play with Luiz-Ramires. Its d correct bet
