After taking the piss all Summer out of Tottenham being demoted to "Thursday Night Football", Chelsea are now taking part in it after Juventus beat Shakhtar Donetsk to qualify as group winners in the Champions League. The Ukrainian side qualify in second place.
This whole situation was never in our hands even though we put on a professional performance to beat Nordsjaelland 6-1 tonight with goals from Luiz (pen), Torres (2), Cahill, Mata and Oscar.
It was a nothing game against the weakest side in the group who being honest will take heart in the fact that due to some more slack defending, they scored a goal against us in London to give their fans something to cheer for travelling to Stamford Bridge tonight.
I'm not going to post on here raving about the performance but no disrespect to Nordsjaelland, it was expected.
Fernando Torres finally broke his recent duck with two goals, Oscar scored yet another Champions League goal, Eden Hazard missed a penalty which is a rarity, Gary Cahill continued his impressive goal scoring record this season, David Luiz demonstrated to everyone how to take a penalty and Juan Mata put the icing on the cake with a simple tap in.
For me one player to come out of the game with some real credit is Oriol Romeu. He was everywhere and it was very noticeable that he was asked to press the ball at every opportunity to win it back whenever it was near him and more often than not, won it back and started off yet another Chelsea attack.
So (with more posts to follow tonight!) Chelsea are out of the Champions League six months after winning the competition back in May. We become the first side to be knocked out as holders in the group stages.
I would like to hear YOUR views on our Champions League defence overall and tonight's game with the fact that we are now OUT!
So Chelsea fans, it's over to you:

All bcoz Mikel lost us the ball in the first match with Juventus...
ReplyDeleteAnother Mikel hater, lol. Yes blame him for our losses and no credit for the wins. FYI our most consistent and best player since the CL last season.. MIKEL has been given him a new and improved 5yr deal. Oops, now you can go follow another team and find another player to slag off.
DeletePoint is that we won't benefit from time off, as we'll playing Europa league Thursdays, and premier league Sundays, which makes things worse. We haven't got a big enough squad to rotate, and I can't see us fielding kids (malouda might get a game though!)
ReplyDeleteIt was a really tough group, shaktar and juventus could probably beat most teams, especially at home, and to get knocked out with 10 points represents a decent effort, in a tough group, from a newish team, albeit champions of Europe.
Lets not forget out roots, 10 years ago we would have loved a uefa cup/Europa league.. Lets hope we get to beat Tottenham and Liverpool on the way to winning it..
Making us double European champions (in a way!)
The early elimination proves that last years triumph was more by luck than design...~ a fortuitous fluke, that when a solid, gritty(let's leave out the much-desired "stylish") dominant defence of the title was needed, the campaign was amateurishly lacking. The club needs gutting, and some very hard facts need facing and acting upon,as every professional & every simple football fan are laughing at Chelsea and its utter dysfunction. All of the tried, tested & proven lessons & practices of successful football have been cast aside by the psychotic dictatorship in its mania for control. When absolute power shows its inherent corruption, time & time again we depose the rotten figurehead & their yes-men, and start again breathing the clean air of free men deciding our own future, without fear from the overarching, omnipotent usurper. We must return to the original values & practices that formed us, before we became a disposable richmans plaything. In a generation or so we will find our moral compass once again, and be able to say that we got what we fought for or natural skill brought our way, ~ not the rancid, cheapening methodology that assumes everything can be bought & every human is to be disposed of when their human frailties are exposed. March on to endless humiliation, failure & forever chasing a fading shadow? Or cut out the cancer & begin life again as free men with OUR destiny once more in OUR hands? If you even stop to consider those options, you're already part of the problem. Better to be poor & free, than rich by licking the boots that will kick you in the face. Get off your knees Chelsea fans.
