Having watched the Club World Cup final again and taking time for the performance and result to settle in, I can't help but think it's yet another missed opportunity for Chelsea this season.
The performance was OK if you think about it. Corinthians never really troubled Petr Cech that many times or looked like scoring compared to the chances Chelsea had in the game.
The difference is the fact that yet again this season, when push comes to shove and in the big games, Chelsea have stumbled, failed to take their chances and it has cost us.
We have now lost the Community Shield, The UEFA Super Cup, Participation in the Champions League and now the World Club Cup final so far this season and apart from the Super Cup, we only have ourselves to blame.
Of course the focus as expected will be on Fernando Torres and the two chances he had in the game. The first was more of a half chance really as he brought the ball down, controlled it and flicked it towards goal but the second was a clear opportunity. He rushed it, never composed himself and fired straight at the keeper.
Gary Cahill did the same in the first half from a half cleared corner too in addition to a good save from their keeper to deny Victor Moses and again from a long range Juan Mata shot.
If Chelsea NEVER created chances in the game then I would be far more worried than I am at the moment but for a club that has been as successful as ours over the last eight years, something now needs to happen inside that dressing room to get that winning mentality back.
After the long trip from Japan, Chelsea head up to Leeds on Wednesday night and it surely is now our best opportunity for a Trophy this season as it stands at the moment, but we have to take our chances.
For the last few seasons, the press, media and "Pundits" have been talking about Chelsea needing to evolve the team, to get rid of the older, more experienced players and for us to see a new generation of Chelsea. I cannot help but wonder, if we had John Terry, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba all fit and still playing for us, if we would have missed out on everything I have mentioned this season?
Chelsea need to pick themselves up, train and work hard to put things right and to get over what has happened already this season. In a season that promised so much, it's turned into a damp squib.
God help us if we lose to Leeds on Wednesday!.

Well it must be very clear to you now. I have been posting on this blog that we are called European Champs but with our mentality & play we insult that Ranking. Roman likes results true (who does'nt) but I must say sacking RDM in the middle of the season only brought in more problems because it feels like starting the season afresh (esp for the players). RDM had his own issue true but Benitez does not even know the team to start with, tell me why Oscar was left out in the Fifa CWC? As well as Mikel who has been rock solid @ the back. Don't get me started on Torres.. He has been the bane of the club.... Chelsea survived last season because there was a 34 year old Drogba... I don't understand how on earth Chelsea let lukaku(loan), Drobga & kalou go leaving the confused Torres as a main man & the ever selfish Daniel as back up.. In doing that we decided how the season would go... Boosting the mid field is very good cause Ʊ'll control the game.... Weakening attack means Ʊ'll have weak results... This January transfer or the next summer should see Torres off to another club where he can try to flourish because the longer he stays with the club the more horrible it will be for him & the club... How many more trophies do we need to miss before we (Roman as well) realize that Torres is'nt the Man for Chelsea?!! Its been about almost 3 seasons now. Enough is enough... We blame managers @ Chelsea but is it the Manager that missed the one on one chance? Let's face the real problem please its the players.... Piazon hit out @ the team's performance on sunday saying they came to the final with out the desire to win... True.
ReplyDeleteChelsea's failure so far this season is plainly the management's(Abramovich) fault. Why on earth would any club, a top club for that matter and in the mold of chelseafc let go of Anelka first in last January transfer window, Kalou and the “Almighty Drogba” subsequently during summer, and loaning Lukaku off without a single replacement leaving the misfiring Torres and not so proven Sturridge to lead without a back-up. Four strikers out in a year without a single replacement and we expect to win trophies?! “We must all be disillusioned”
ReplyDeleteI reckon we go for for Falcao as Chelsea is bent on bringing him in, and Demba ba. I'd think the latter is a steal at £7m and doesn't require a bumper salary so personal terms shouldn't be an issue.
