So we would have had two weeks since Chelsea's last game against Atletico Madrid by the time we are ready to face QPR on Saturday. We all know what happened in Monaco and have our concerns with the way we were ripped apart defensively.
I just want to know what you people think is Chelsea's strongest back four now at the club and for the hostile atmosphere this weekend at Loftus Road?
We have now signed Cesar Azpilicueta who is a Spanish International to boost our ranks and to give Branislav much needed competition. Ryan Bertrand has proven that he can cut it at first team level and is now pushing Ashley Cole for a start at right back.
In the middle as we all know, we have John Terry, Branislav Ivanovic, David Luiz and Gary Cahill. The question remains at the moment as to who is our strongest two in the middle?
Who deserves to start and who would you class as our "strongest" these days?
I personally think at the moment at full back Cole and Ivanovic are ahead of the other two at the moment. Azpilicueta will be pushing Ivanovic but will need time to bed in and adapt to the Premier League.
So that leaves us with the two in the middle. For me JT starts because let's face it, when he isn't there it never the same. We lack his leadership, his positional sense and his presence. At times against Atletico we looked all over the place and I believe that we need him there organising and giving people bollockings to make sure they are doing their defensive work for the team.
The final place in the back four next to John Terry in my view goes to Gary Cahill. I believe that Cahill is from the same mould as JT. He lives for clean sheets and you can see during games as he celebrates tackles being won or saves being made!.
In addition to that he is also a voice at the back and has been ever since he came to Chelsea. It's so important to have someone like that there, in some games people need a jolt or a kick up the arse and Cahill is more than willing to give it to people.
So that's my choice going forward and for QPR next weekend:
Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry(c), Cole.
Like I said, QPR will be a hostile atmosphere and Chelsea will need cool heads in this one. It's important to sort out our defensive base to build from as Mark Hughes will be only too aware of just how easily Atletico beat us.
What do you people think? Do you agree with me going forward and for QPR this weekend?

RB:LUIZ CB:TERRY,CAHILL LB:COLE
ReplyDeleteWhile agree with 3 out of four I would put Luiz ahead of Cahill only because Cahill better fits in where terry plays and Luiz is solid when playing with terry
ReplyDeleteCahill for sure ahead of luiz. Luiz positional sense is poor and his mistakes always seem costly. I would prefer to see luiz tried in the holding midfield role. Lampard and mikel are fine there against average opponents, against class they get found out for pace. Oscar looked good when he came on and looked stronger than you'd think. Cesar will replace Branno soon as Branno is a good right back but not class. Good all round but not great at anything. Cesar had pace, can tackle and his crossing is far better. Some of Brannos crossing is poor. Cole is still quality but seems to bring it more in the big games.
ReplyDeleteCompetition 4 places is the most important thing.it meks evry team member to give his best 4 the team.for our back 4:
ReplyDeleteIvanovic-Terry-Luiz-Cole.
BUT we r not 100 % safe coz each one of them has flaws.Against Madrid Luiz was reckless n we paid the price.Ivanovic was caught out of position n we paid 4 that too.JT is a hero n a leader.he commands n everyone hears wat he says there4 he maintains order n discipline on the pitch.but we know his weakness.CAHILL is the perfect cover 4 JT n LUIZ.and he can fight them out of thea position if one of them bcoms a JOKE.BERTRAND is a perfect cover 4 Cole, but i dont think he serves us right wen played as a left winger.we have other ppol 4 tht position unless we want a DEFENSIVE play.i havnt seen Azpilicueta playin so i wunt comment on him.but am sure he is quality.
