Fernando Torres has had to get used to the pressure of his price tag and the constant scrutiny of the press and media about his performances ever since he signed for Chelsea. Now that Didier Drogba has gone, there are already stories about Chelsea "lacking" firepower this season but today Fernando Torres has a chance to start the season on a high and begin to answer all those critics with goals against City at Villa Park.
We all know it hasn't been easy for him playing in the 4-3-3 formation. Playing second fiddle to Drogba didn't help either but with RDM's change in formation to 4-2-3-1 (if we stick with it!) and the players we have signed in attacking midfield positions, Torres literally has everything put in place to succeed.
I was disappointed, just as it seemed that Torres was, last Saturday at Brighton. RDM reverted back to the 4-3-3 formation and for the most part Torres seemed isolated up top and struggled to get involved. I am really hoping that we don't see the 4-3-3 this afternoon as Torres will suffer the same problems.
If as I have predicted in my match preview, RDM starts in the 4-2-3-1 formation with Hazard, Mata and Ramires playing a supporting role to Torres this afternoon, then expect Torres to have one of his best games at Chelsea today.
His runs won't be ignored, he will be heavily involved and rather than having to drop deep to come and get the ball, we should see Torres playing off the shoulder of the last defender and being played through balls in behind that he can hopefully get on the end of and score.
If everything clicks this season for Torres like we all know it could, I have little doubt that Torres will finish top scorer in the Premier League this season and could even hit the 30 goal barrier.
Yes it's a bold statement, but I believe 100% that with the right service Torres will prove to everyone that he is different class and well worth the £50m we paid for him.
Come on Torres, it's time to shut them all up!
KTBFFH!
Yes I agree I for one think that this year is his year, with the players Chelsea now possess and are going to posess ie Moses who's gonna be another great signing and that means Mikel will have another African in the team which will help him! Chelsea should score bags of goals and torres should be bangin them in for fun, I also believe from what I've seen of Oscar he's the future too replace lamps, he looks suited for it he picks the ball up off defence and he makes runs into the box he's not afraid too have a pop, which is something I honestly think Frank has lost you Just don't see him smashing them home from outside the box anymore. I also think we only can't play 4-3-3 because we didn't have the players but I think if it consisted of maybe Ramires Essien Oscar then the balance is back, you've got a box to box a destroyer and a technically gifted solid passer. Essien will also be back this year too crush the doubters, no injuries please Essien just a solid year from you.
ReplyDeleteHe scored and opened his account. That's a good sign and he played with composure and in general he looked good on the ball. Chances were scarce for us but it looks like Torres with torment lesser teams this coming season. Up the blues!
ReplyDeleteYes he's off the mark and I know its only pre season but that's 4 defeats in a row now.
ReplyDeleteWe need to start winning starting on sunday.
Let's not have to pick positives from defeats like last season.
Let's just win games and move on to the next.
Defently need a right back cuz Ivanovic is suspended and season ain't even kicked off yet.
Cheers ref!
