Today is the day that Didier Drogba announced his next move in his career and it's been the worst kept secret in football hasn't it!.
Drogba has confirmed he is moving to Shanghai Shenhua on a two and a half year deal and will join up with Nicolas Anelka.
Drogba said:
'Today I can inform you that I have signed with Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua for a two and a half year deal. I will fly out to join up with the squad in July.
I have considered all the offers I have received in the past few weeks, but I feel that Shanghai Shenhua is the right move for me at this time.
I am looking forward to a new challenge and to experiencing a new culture, and I am excited about the new developments in the Chinese Super League.
When Chelsea went to China last year, we had a great time and I met some amazing fans. I hope to help promote Chinese football around the world and further improve the links between China and Africa.'
So it's confirmed and good luck to him I say. It feels so weird that we will be following the club we all adore and he won't be there next season. If anything, the fact that he announced he was leaving Chelsea a few weeks ago has made it even worse as we have to wait for his contract to finish on 30th June.
All of us will be forever grateful to Didier Drogba for the contribution he has made to our football club. He leaves as a legend and rightly so.
There are as you can imagine, many videos put together by people on YouTube but there is this one below put together by TheSpinFire that is fantastic and I have no shame in admitting, it brought a tear to my eye.
(Check out ALL the goals Didier Drogba has EVER scored for Chelsea here too!)
The message on it is clear, Thank you Didier Drogba!.
