Hello everyone,
As the season has finished and we can't wait for another one to start, I thought I would take an in depth look back at last season and go through key moments that happened.
So, let's start at the beginning back in June 2011 as AVB was appointed our manager.
JUNE 2011 - AVB Appointed.
It was June 22nd 2011 when Chelsea confirmed Andre Villas-Boas as their manager. He immediately spoke to the club's website about his appointment and indicated at the time, that he was "confident that he could respond to Chelsea's expectations".
Now bearing in mind the problems that Carlo Ancelotti and others had at the club before, I was quick to point out on here the "FIVE THINGS AVB MUST DO BEFORE THE SEASON STARTS" at the club and looking back it's safe to say, he only achieved the marquee signing in Juan Mata.
Those same five points will apply to whoever takes over at the club this summer!
AVB continued to make an impact at Chelsea as he appointed Roberto Di Matteo to his technical staff, cancelled a pre season friendly the club had arranged, spoke of the "collective" rather than himself when asked about being another "special one". He referred to himself instead as the "group one".
Finally when asked about the situation with Fernando Torres and his goal drought the season before, he spoke of "fine tuning the team" as a whole rather than concentrate on the individual.
Being honest at the time, I was sucked in like many people were looking back. After amazing success in just one season at Porto, being part of Jose's original backroom staff and speaking of being a technical manager as well as a tactical manager, AVB seemed to be THE MAN to take our club forward.
Well, that's what I thought at the time anyway!
