Let's be honest here, the club should have made their managerial appointment by now shouldn't they!. It's obvious that Roman wanted Guardiola and has done for years and I really don't see him going back on what he has said about taking some time off to be with his family. Of course if Roman wants him, he will do what he can to try and change his mind.
Roberto Di Matteo should be given the job in my opinion and right now is just relaxing away from football with nothing to prove. However, there is still speculation that he doesn't want just a one year deal and feels that he has done more than enough to deserve the role full time.
So this is where Harry Redknapp comes in. Being honest, I am surprised to read his comments in The Sun today and it's the first time I can remember that he has been critical of his Chairman which is interesting to say the least.
Redknapp has one year left on his contract and feels that he should have been offered a new one by now. Now whether or not he HAS had contact from Abramovich I don't know, but Redknapp is beginning to turn the screw on the club. He said:
“I’ve got a year left on my contract. It’s not a case of looking for security. What it’s about is players knowing you’ve only got one year left on your contract. It doesn’t work. It’s a situation, ‘He might not be here next year, so...’(Source)
You don’t let players run into the last year of their contract if you think they’re any good — and you don’t let a manager run in to the last year of their contract if you think he’s any good.
If they think I’m OK and I deserve an extension they’ll give it to me. If Daniel Levy doesn’t think I’m worth it, then there’s nothing I can do.
I think things couldn’t have gone better since I’ve been there. We’ve finished fourth twice, fifth once, quarter-finals of the Champions League, played fantastic football.
It’s up to the chairman. If he doesn’t want to give me another year or extend my contract beyond a year, that’s his decision.”
The rumours of Redknapp and Chelsea persist and just won't go away. First England and now Chelsea and I just wonder if Spurs feel as though Redknapp has taken them as far as he can after throwing third place and the gap they had on Arsenal away?.
As far as Chelsea goes, it IS as much these days about managing your players and being as much or a man manager as being tactically aware as Roberto Di Matteo proved. No matter whether you like Redknapp or not, he IS a good man manager.
The longer this drags on, the more intense it will become. Come on Roman, sort it out sooner rather than later!
KTBFFH!
