Every single Chelsea fan on the planet took in a deep breath as we heard that David Luiz and Gary Cahill would take part in a full Chelsea training session yesterday, hoping that they would come through it unscathed.
Luckily for us (touch wood, fingers crossed and all that), they did and both look to be able to start in Munich. It's amazing news for us as we all know the problems with suspensions we have for Saturday.
I want to focus on David Luiz right now and there is a reason why. After SkySports Pundit Gary Neville described his defending since he came to Chelsea as "Defending like he is being controlled by a 10 year old on a PlayStation", Luiz has taken note and worked hard to adapt his style.
The rash tackles, diving into challenges he didn't need to, trying to dribble out of defence under pressure, losing the ball and giving away needless penalties seems to have disappeared from his game as our season has gone on and I believe he would have started the final anyway, regardless of the problems we have with suspensions.
Luiz's defending has improved immensely well. We see more of him just booting the ball into the stands these days rather than trying to dribble around the striker and it's been obvious to see.
The gift Luiz has is the ability to read the game in front of him. Similar to Glen Hoddle and the class, stylish players of the past, Luiz more often than not can see where the ball is going and steps in ahead of his opponent to win the ball back and start off another Chelsea attack. In my eyes, it's something he doesn't alot of credit for.
You look at footage of him on the pitch, in training and around the dressing room and the guy just loves to be playing and having a laugh and you can imagine Luiz is a very infectious character.
However, there is a determination inside him to succeed and over the past four weeks, with the chance to play in the game he says he has always dreamed of, Luiz has put in countless hours or hard work to get back to fitness to be ready for Munich.
He said:
"One day when I was a kid in Brazil it was my dream and now I get my chance next Saturday to play in the Champions League final. Everyone will stop in to watch the game [at home].(Source)
I took treatment every day, in the morning, in the afternoon and evening. People don't know that but I was always hopeful and now I'm so happy because I am 100 per cent for training. I can do all the movements and I am so happy for that.
Like many of you, I love David Luiz and the impact he has had at Chelsea. We knew he had the ability after seeing him last season, if only he could tone it down abit.
He has done, and has become an important part of our team this season, on Saturday night and hopefully for our future.
Some people will have doubts about Luiz and his match fitness but I will tell you this. With the hunger, desire and determination this guy has shown to be back and involved in the game he always dreamed of, we will have no worries at all.
If Chelsea are to have any hopes of success in Munich, we need Luiz playing at his best and giving his all. After hearing what it has taken him to get here, he will want to prove to all the people who still have doubts about him, just how good he really has become.
