Surely, if you are Roberto Di Matteo last night after everything has died down and you are left alone with your thoughts before you went to bed last night / this morning, you must have thought to yourself "I have just beaten Barcelona!"?.
He may be saying the right things to the press and the media, but deep down he must feel as though he is doing and has done more than enough to be a serious contender for the job on a full time basis now?.
He refuses to speak of his own future but would rather speak about the club and the players first and it's admirable. I guess it's easier because from now until the end of the season we play every three to four days so it's literally a case of having to move from one performance to preparing the next morning for the next game.
Surely Di Matteo now has to be seriously considered by Roman Abramovich?
It's everything with RDM. It's the way he has handled the problems when he took over. There was reported unrest, players not accepting rotation or being left out and rumours of the established players calling the shots. He put all that to bed within the first couple of days.
In such a short space of time, he managed to refocus everyone to what was required, got them to believe in themselves and in the team again.
He has managed to get each and every single player to accept that there is a rotation and they may not play every game. Even when on the bench, players are coming on and giving it their all for the manager and their team mates.
He has installed belief in the players once more and as a result, they all clearly believe in him and his methods on the training pitch. They buy into his approach and his tactics for every game and we have seen amazing results. Down and out after the game in Naples, look where we are now - taking a lead to the Nou Camp in the semi finals of the Champions League.
He has booked a spot in the FA Cup final in addition to all this after thrashing Spurs with a result that no one could have predicted.
The most impressive thing for me though is the way he has set us up for each game. He has looked at the opposition coming up no matter who they are and has for the most part, figured them out and thought of a playing style and formation that can beat them. His team has then gone out and delivered time and time again what he has asked of them.
I said, back when AVB was sacked at the time, there was only one man who could come in and take over. I said that person would be "bigger than our dressing room" and that person was Jose Mourinho.
No one could have imagined the impact that Roberto Di Matteo would have at this club in such a short space of time and for me it's clear to see, Bobby Di Matteo has now become a very serious candidate and his stock is rising!.
