Read that scoreline again and tell me what it says! Yes, Chelsea 1-0 Barcelona and I will tell you something, forget everything about the game for a second because that scoreline that we all still can't quite believe at the moment, is what goes in the record books and is all that matters.
Yes I know Barcelona totally dominated the game, Yes they made FOUR TIMES as many passes of the ball than we did and Yes I am fully aware that we rode our luck at times as they hit the crossbar, post and had one cleared off the line. Did they score an away goal? No they didn't. I keep saying it, but that really is all that matters this morning.
I had written my match preview and said that I truly believed that we would score last night and win the game and I was proved right!.
It was such a weird day yesterday, having the confidence that we could score against them and beat them and that's because of the way the team have been playing. I honestly thought we would look to get at Barcelona and try and force them backwards but, to his credit, RDM got our tactics spot on and Barcelona must be in their hotel tonight wondering how on earth they have lost the game.
Chelsea had three shots at the Barcelona goal and only ONE on target but like I keep banging on about, it's the one that matters from Didier Drogba and it was the perfect counter attack wasn't it.
The argument about older players has become non existent as time and time again in recent weeks they have all stepped up and delivered and this goal was conducted by Frank Lampard and finished by Didier Drogba with Ramires playing the supporting role.
Funny that it was Messi who lost the ball to Lampard in the first place. Credit to Lampard for looking up, seeing the run of Ramires and picking out a fantastic ball into his stride as he carried the ball towards the corner of the box. Fantastic run and cross from Ramires behind the defenders trying to get back to cover and great first time finish from Drogba and at the perfect time just before the break!.
We all knew the second half would be even harder than the first and it turned out to be the case with Barcelona dominating even more. How Alexis missed the chance from six yards I will never know and the Pedro shot hitting the foot of the post and being hit over the bar from 10 yards was another luckily break!.
I like to think of it this morning that we deserved our luck last night and that because of the phenomenal work ethic our side had and the way they all worked for each other to stop Barcelona and Messi in particular.
Every single player to a man who featured on that pitch ALL played their part. Every single one of them went out there and gave everything that was required of them from the manager and their team mates and FULL credit goes to all of them.
It wasn't pretty and like I said, Yes we rode our luck but we worked our socks off. We became THAT team that normally comes to Stamford Bridge and plays that way against us, the team we normally struggle to break down.
There were 13 hero's out there tonight who all played a part in the win over Barcelona. It wasn't pretty, but we got the job done. A clean sheet and a lead to take to the Nou Camp. If we had been offered it beforehand, we would have taken that without question.
We saw a very defensive Chelsea side "park the bus" tonight but I predict we will see a very different approach next week. Barca have to come out and attack us to get back on level terms no matter what but without an away goal, they will be more than wary of Chelsea scoring there and through set pieces, I still think we can.
It will all lead to a fascinating affair next Tuesday night but for now, for us Chelsea fans it's yet another great European night at the Bridge.
We may have got battered on the night possession wise and with the chances created, but it's what is written in the record books at the final whistle that counts!
