Benfica 0-1 Chelsea - What did you think of the game?

I said in my match preview that our performance tonight was the most important thing about the game and I wasn't focused too much on the opposition. Chelsea delivered a great result from a fantastic team performance and bring home a 1-0 lead to Stamford Bridge next week.

I think we were all surprised by RDM's team selection with resting the likes of Lampard, Drogba and Essien, but it paid off as every single person did what was asked of them tonight. The changes he made were the right ones and for me, tonight's performance showed everyone watching just how together the squad is now and prepared to work hard for each other.

John Terry and David Luiz will take the plaudits after both played outstandingly well with the solid Ashley Cole and get this, Paulo Ferreira next to them. Ferreira played excellent for only his third game of the season.

OK, Benfica created a couple of chances with two notable ones being blocked by Luiz on the line and palmed away by Petr Cech, but with Mata hitting the post and Meireles forcing their keeper into a save, Chelsea created them more than enough problems.

As you know we nicked our goal after fantastic work down the right from Ramires freed Fernando Torres who composed himself and picked out Salomon Kalou who tapped home from six yards. It was the all important icing on top of a great performance and we have to be more than confident for the return leg next week.

Chelsea learned more than enough from the game about our opposition. They are slow and laboured at the back and if we play the way we know we can, we should put this lot to bed without question.

So, a fantastic, professional performance from the blues and a great result.
