With matters outside of football keeping Roman Abramovich busy, it was great to hear that he was at Cobham to see the players train on Saturday, to see AVB for a chat about things and to attend the game on Sunday. Roman even popped in to chat with the players for 30 minutes after the 3-3 draw with United.
It's been a long time since we have heard that Roman is taking a real interest in Chelsea once again. We always used to see reports of him being a Cobham, chatting along with the manager and the players and getting a feel for things.
As you would imagine, the press got wind of Roman's visit and the Daily Mail were first to "pipe up" with rubbish about AVB being under pressure and "left shaken" after Roman "turned up unannounced for showdown talks!".
The club last night have denied these talks were anything to do with a so called showdown but insisted that it was just a "normal conversation".
I could be wrong here, but like I said about Roman, we always used to see him being really keen to get to training as often as possible and support his manager and over a period of time we are seeing it less so. He gets to games of course but to be at training and have the communication with everyone is in my view important.
It refocuses everyone, gives everyone a lift and keeps them on their toes as you don't see or hear about other mega rich owners doing the same.
I think that AVB is in this for the long haul with Roman's backing. Maybe just maybe, possible summer targets have been identified on Saturday as AVB plans for the future?.
