1. It's a strange one to take, I think if you had asked me before hand I would have said that it was important Chelsea didn't lose the game. Saying that, to play well for the first ten minutes of the second half and find ourselves 3-0 up was a bonus!. To throw it all away is tough to take.
2. Cahill on his debut played well enough. He looked calm and composed and looked OK alongside David Luiz, his shot at the end of the game was good to see his confidence with the ball at his feet to step forward and take it on.
3. Bosingwa at left back played OK. Considering it was a toss up between him and Ryan Bertrand, Bosingwa held his own for most of the game.
4. Essien starting the game was a bonus for Chelsea as we gives us some bite in midfield. Was noticeable that he was huffing and puffing towards the end though.
5. I was pleased to see our formation had changed to the 4-2-3-1 formation but we never gave Juan Mata enough of the ball.
His goal was different class. Great cross from Fernando Torres and what a finish!.
6. We knew what Howard Webb is like when it comes to Refereeing United games. People are moaning about him and the penalties he awarded United but for me, we have to look at our defending. We should never have put ourselves into those positions to make it easy for him to punish us.
7. The equaliser was a real kick in the teeth but being honest, the way Chelsea had retreated and began to sit back off United it was coming. Why did Ivanovic not close down Giggs when he picked up the ball out wide? Why give Giggs the time to bring it under control, look up and put in the cross he did under no pressure when we are trying to defend our lead? Hernandez's movement is always top drawer so you can't really point the finger at Luiz when the cross shouldn't have come over anyway!.
8. AVB's substitutions were strange again. Sturridge was keeping Evra who had been booked occupied and as soon as he was taken off, it gave Evra licence to get forward even more. Chelsea lacked width once this happened.
9. I posted in the week about Torres and giving him the service but today he knows himself that he should have done better when Ivanovic flicked a header onto him. He did everything right to come inside but should have pulled the trigger rather than try and turn back on himself to allow Valencia to make the tackle.
10. Did we bring it on ourselves by sitting too deep and allowing Paul Scholes and Wayne Rooney to dictate the game? I think we did. Chelsea's pressing in the first half seemed to disappear and we allowed United to come forward onto us.
Overall, it was two points dropped by us as United fought back. Credit to United for never giving up. They play to their strengths, play at pace and always looked like getting back in it. Chelsea had their chances late on saved by De Gea.
We leave this one feeling like we have been beaten but it's important to remember that we haven't been. After the performance at Swansea, this was so much better.
What a game!

A game of such magnitude should not be given to Webb anymo. Two dubious penalty allowed us to sit back and allowed utd to fight back
ReplyDeleteWeb play a very big role in united goals, releasing d yellow card to our player to increase d presure on us,and little to man u. But our main problem today was Maluda and Daniel Stu, d worst is Daniel.maybe he needs competition in dat wing so he can perform as a team player not team shoter.
ReplyDeleteYeah,it is a joke.I can't understand for God's sake why is he still keeping on making such mistake.Malouda is making no impact in matches and pulling out Sturridge was his undoing. It's too bad that Chelsea cannot defend three goals.I am not happy with the coach and i am starting to doubt if he is the right man to lead Chelsea to what we,fans want.I don't know why he keeps on using Malouda, can't he see he is making no impact.I am really sad.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it was like Chelsea versus Howerd Webb, Man United's 12th man!
