I think it's common knowledge that Didier Drogba will be leaving the club at the end of the season. His agent has confirmed it and when asked of his plans for the future, Drogba remained silent and said he would rather focus on the team.
When we see a performance from Drogba last night when he became simply unplayable you first of all wonder why we would want to get rid of him but then you realise it's not something he is like each week and you have to wonder why?.
We have seen it time and time again, there is no one better in his position when he is up for a game. He can take two centre backs apart by himself using his strength, his power and pace. Last night the Valencia defenders couldn't get near him and that has been the case with many defenders in the Premier League over the years.
Like I said the problem is there is another side to Drogba, the flip side and I find it difficult to write this because of what he he has done for our club, he becomes a liability.
There have been performances from Drogba where he hasn't been interested or anywhere near the player we know he can be for a number of reasons. He can't hold the ball up, doesn't win his headers or loses the ball and seems to just drift around the pitch with no purpose. That's the Drogba we never want to see but in recent times it's what we have had to put up with.
I can never understand it to be honest and I never will. How do you go from being one of the best in the world, scoring 30 goals in a season and being one of the most feared strikers in Europe if not the World to becoming anything but?
I know there has been the situation with Malaria and Fernando Torres signing for the club. With the Torres situation, surely it would give you more motivation to get back to your best to put up a fight which is what he seems to be doing again right now.
The problem is, like I have said we need the level of performance from Didier Drogba that we saw last night, every single time he steps on to that pitch. He wins games by himself. Not just the big games, but against the so called lesser sides in the Premier League too!
Unplayable to being a liability. Ridiculous isn't it!
