It really is make or break for Chelsea tonight and I cannot emphasise enough just how important the right result is for our season. We have come up against adversity in recent weeks and took a massive step in the right direction at Newcastle on Saturday.
I have to stress that it's important that we do not get carried away as there is plenty still to do. We have Man City at home in 6 days time which is another massive game in itself but tonight against Valencia is even bigger.
We need to avoid defeat to progress to the knockout stages but this is no easy game. A defeat would mean elimination from the competition and entry into the dreaded EUROPA LEAGUE!. It's unthinkable to even consider isn't it but is something we could be forced to face if we do not play well enough.
Valencia are a dangerous side. Talented players, technically good and will look to come here to score. They will look to expose any weaknesses we have and will pose us more of a threat than Leverkusen and Genk have here. Chelsea need to ensure we are organised at the back and keep Soldado quiet.
I do however believe that at the back, Valencia aren't the strongest and Chelsea could cause them all sorts of problems.
It really is winner takes all as Leverkusen are already through. They face Genk and we could really do with an upset. We have made a right mess of this group and should have won it easily by now. If as expected Leverkusen win tonight then we could face a horrible draw against the likes of Madrid, Bayern Munich or Barcelona in the next round (That's if we make it through!).
Before Newcastle I called for our big names to show up and get things going for us and they did to a degree. We need the same again to happen tonight without fail, we cannot afford to carry people. If they aren't in it by half time or 60 mins, replace them. This is no time for losers.
Chelsea fans! Why not go and try the brand new Indian Restaurant in Fulham Broadway The MASALA ZONE before or after the game tonight. Head to The Masala Zone (opposite Barclays Bank) and please mention you have seen this advert on my website "Chelseadaft" for me when you go in.
"The Masala Zone - Real Indian Food!"
So what of Chelsea tonight? Will AVB make some changes to the side from the weekend? I can see our back four remaining the same in front of Cech. So expect Ivanovic, Luiz, Terry (C) and Cole to form our defence. Oriol Romeu has been a revelation so far and looks as though he has cemented his place in the side, expect him to start in the holding role.
Alongside Romeu has to be Ramires for his workrate and energy. We need his box to box tonight and he could play a key part in this one. I never thought I would say this, but it's a toss up between Lampard and Meireles as to who starts. I think because of the night it is and the experience, Lampard will get the nod however, I wouldn't be surprised if Meireles does.
Up front again because of the night it is and experience it will be the same three as Saturday. This would mean the first time this season AVB has kept the same eleven for two consecutive games. Think about it, the core of our side that has been the bedrock of our success will be there tonight. Cech, Terry, Lampard and Drogba, the supposed leaders of the dressing room, big players, big reputations and massive experience in nights like tonight. I know people knock some of them this season but if selected as I am predicting, we really need BIG BIG GAMES from them all tonight.
Without question, we need everyone to be ready tonight. Up and at it from the start. To remain tight and compact without the ball, to work hard to win it back and when we have it in our possession, to move it forward quickly to feet. We have the players to win this, we have the quality we just need to get out there and do it.
So come on Chelsea, it's now we need a performance more than ever. Do it for the club, for the manager, for yourselves, the supporters and the shirt!
Chelsea to win this by two goals in what could be a fantastic European night once more at the Bridge.
This really is all or nothing!!!
