AVB in his comments about Didier Drogba leaving for the African Cup of Nations in January made a point that I believe to be quite interesting. He said:
"Of course, Anelka will not be available anymore but we have Sturridge, Lukaku and Fernando competing for that place when Drogba will be away."So I am wondering if AVB will go into the market for a striker at all now. We were linked with David Villa yesterday and unfortunately today he has broken his leg playing for Barcelona in the World Club Cup so that would rule him out.
We are also being linked with Gonzalo Higuain and a £30m move for the "unsettled" striker in the press again this morning but I cannot see it happening to be honest and it's not the first time in recent weeks this story has appeared. Why would he want to leave Real Madrid when the only competition he has for his position is one person, Benzema?.
I might be wrong here but I am thinking that AVB see's Nico as more of a winger now that a striker. As he says, we have Torres, Lukaku and Sturridge all in contention for a start through the middle while Drogba is away and I believe that Torres will earn the start and will pick up his form. Remember, Drogba is only away for a month so when he comes back we will have more than enough cover.
So I think we will be looking to replace Nico Anelka but ONLY as someone who can operate either side of the striker in the wide areas cutting inside. I will give you two names I would want as a replacement for Anelka, one is me dreaming as I can't see it happening although it would be fantastic if he did come back, and the other is more realistic.
The person I would love to bring back here is Arjen Robben but like I said I can't see it happening. The more realistic transfer possibly even as early as January would be Kevin De Bruyne. He has really impressed me considering I knew very little about him and he would be perfect. He has age on his side, obvious talent and is already performing on the biggest European stage.
So to sum up, I believe we do need to replace him but ONLY in the wide areas.
So to you the Chelsea fan reading this, I ask you the following two questions:
How do we replace Anelka? What position?

I would understand to bring a young talent to Chelsea only because our team at the moment is solid and changes should not be done just yet. Another reason we should not bring big name players because most likely they would be on bench we should save and look for more younger players to develope the future of Chelsea and at the same time have back up subs if needed. But for me we should try to bring in Andres guardado he is a spectacular left footed Mexican player and would be a good addition to the squad
