Never one to shirk away from this responsibility to speak to the media, Andre Villas-Boas was quick to speak honestly and openly about our recent form. He said:
It looks bad for us at the moment. It has not been the brightest of starts - the worst for quite some time - but we have to have belief and believe in the work to get back to winning ways. The players have immense talent and I believe in them.(Source)
We have to trust the December fixtures, but above all we have to find the belief again to fight for the title. As difficult as it looks, there are so many points in front of us that we can still fight for it.
We have to focus on what we are doing. The Premier League has got more difficult, we have to be fair and say that. It’s not impossible but it is more difficult.
The most important thing is finding winning ways straightaway - if possible against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League. That is a massive game.
Then we have three games in the Premier League where we must try to get nine points. The challenge is to have the belief and strength to fight for those nine points.
But if we get nine points, it would put us in a different perspective. It is not bright for us but we have to find that belief.”
To me it's a message to his players and to the fans to stick with him, believe in what he is trying to achieve here. He makes a good point, if we win tonight and the next three league games including one against Man City then all this talk of Chelsea in a crisis will be over and things will look much better for us.
The problem is the simple mistakes we are and have been making that has cost us dearly. It is far too early to consider his future and all the talk of him being sacked is ridiculous. I posted yesterday and article stating that he must be given time and I stand by that.
As long as the players stick with the manager, stick with each other and have the belief in AVB and his philosophy then that's half the battle won. It's just what happens on match days that needs to be much much better.
