I'M GOBSMACKED AS KALOU IS OFFERED A NEW DEAL!

AVB today revealed that Chelsea have offered Salomon Kalou a new contract after all which is a big surprise in my book. I only posted the other day about Kalou being linked with the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool as they had been reportedly interested in signing him when his contract expires at the end of the season.

In my book at the moment he doesn't deserve to be starting games as he hasn't done much at all this season and that even includes pre season. For me, he hasn't done enough to prove to AVB and the club that he deserves a new contract so I am gobsmacked that we have offered him a new deal.

I know he is still young, but at this level, he is far too inconsistent and cannot command a regular starting place in the side.

We need to make sure we have competition for places throughout the side to keep people on their toes and to have quality in our squad. Benayoun was shown the door in the transfer window because in my view he doesn't provide Lampard, Essien, Mikel, Ramires, McEachran and now Meireles with a threat to their places in the first team and now the same can be said of Kalou.

At the moment he is way behind in the pecking order. Do you think Mata or Sturridge see him as a threat to their start in the side or even Nico Anelka?

Kalou has a choice to make before January. If he doesn't sign a new deal he is free to speak to other clubs. If he does decide to stay, he has been here long enough now to know, he needs to up his game and improve!

Like I say, I am very surprised at the news!
