I have to say that I was surprised to read the comments made by Thibaut Courtois the other day about Petr Cech and the longevity of his career. Courtois was speaking of the situation with joining Chelsea and being out on loan and told Spanish radio station Onda Cero the following about Petr Cech:
"I know he has problems with his knees and back, Chelsea's goalkeeping coach told me he doesn't know how much time Cech has left at the top level."(Source)
Now the reason I am asking what we think is going on is because of the comments in response that AVB made in his press conference yesterday. AVB was asked about Courtois comments and expressed his apparent frustrations and said:
"A statement has come out from Courtois' people and agent. He has been misled on his information and he was unfortunate in his quotes. End of story."(Source)
So what are we to believe? Cech has been a mainstay for Chelsea ever since he joined us. OK, he has had his injuries but are they really that bad?. If there was a doubt over the situation with his knees then would Chelsea run the risk to keep him in the side? I honestly don't think they would.
On the flip side, Courtois wouldn't make something like this up would he? Or would he? I find it strange for someone to join us in the summer, go out on loan and within the space of a couple of months to reveal something like this even if it is true.
Based on AVB's response, I think it's a blessing for him that he is playing his football in Spain for this and next season!.
What do you think about Cech? Back to his best or still some way off?
