If you were asked to name your preferred first eleven now that the transfer window has shut, you would pretty much pick 6 or 7 similar players in a 4-3-3 formation under AVB.
There is an argument that Chelsea have become predictable since last season and pretty much for three halves of football at the start of this season. Stoke and West Brom found it easy to cope with Chelsea's style of play and as a result we found it difficult to break them down.
If you as a Chelsea fan were asked by people you know a month ago "Are Chelsea predictable" then I would say the majority of you would give a simple answer of "Yes!".
However, now the transfer window has closed and after the signings we have made, AVB now has plenty of options at his disposal to make "HIS CHELSEA" for from predictable and this is what excites me about this season.
I wrote a post about how the window was HUGE for us based on what we have seen so far of the players United and City had brought in, and how they were playing already this season. It was important for us to keep up with them and not to fall behind. I am confident we now have the squad with plenty of options to do so.
Of all the players we have brought in, Romeu, Mata and Meireles have enabled AVB to switch and change formations and this will give us an advantage over the others.
For instance, we saw against West Brom, AVB switched from the standard Chelsea 4-3-3 to a Midfield Diamond and the impact was instant. We fought back and won the game.
Against Norwich, we started with the Diamond once again but then switched to 4-3-3 and back to a Diamond and won the game.
The additions of Romeu and Meireles will provide AVB with options to firstly rotate our midfield players, or deploy different formations. Chelsea could adopt a 4-2-3-1 formation now with two holding midfielders in Romeu and Mikel. This will enable maybe, Mata wide left, Lampard/Ramires/Meireles in the middle and Sturridge wide right as a three in behind Fernando Torres or Didier Drogba?.
We could play a midfield diamond now too but with different options. For example, against Norwich, Chelsea started with a diamond midfield of Mikel holding, Malouda left, Ramires right and Lampard at the top. I think it' safe to say Juan Mata will be used further forward so forget about him for now, so Raul Meireles provides AVB with an option of using in in ALL FOUR positions. He has played the holding role for Porto, can push further forward as he has done with success at Liverpool, or could play either side.
Our tried and trusted 4-3-3 formation now provides AVB with options up front AND in our midfield. Malouda won't have it all his own way like he did last season and will realise he needs to up his game to start, Anelka and Kalou are now options that I believe are behind the likes of Mata and Sturridge wide right and Torres and Drogba will be kept on their toes with Lukaku coming in.
Last season, the players themselves knew who would be playing week in, week out and that's why we suffered. Now, as JT said earlier "No one is safe" and has to earn the right to play in the first team and that includes Frank Lampard..
I think the key thing to remember here is that AVB has looked at our squad, seen what is needed and for the most part has gone out there and got what he wanted apart from Pereira down the left (but Mata, Sturridge and Malouda can play there so not a problem) and Luka Modric.
Modric is no loss for me as I see Mata being the alternative and will become the player we look to create some craft in our midfield. The same could be said of Raul Meireles also. Juan Mata and Raul Meireles will inject much needed pace into our play and the killer ball through to Fernando Torres. Something that IS still missing!.
The problem for most of us watching the game is that we can still see people ignoring Torres' runs into space or not playing that killer ball through to him for whatever reason and as a result he hasn't been scoring goals so you end up with articles I posted about last night.
Even if Didier Drogba starts ahead of Torres, he will receive the same level of service which will be of benefit to him and Chelsea. Even Lukaku or Anelka, if they play there will benefit because AVB will continue to encourage players to express themselves and move the ball forward quickly.
To sum up, I am really pleased with our signings as I stated on here yesterday. AVB has brought in players that give us plenty of options that WILL make Chelsea alot less predictable than we have been.
It's my view that we have to trust in AVB because the future is now brighter at Chelsea.

There is no formation better than our natural 4 4 2 with the much better midfeilders that we have now. There is no formation better than our natural 4 4 2 with the much better midfeilders that we have now.
