Juan Mata believes that AVB is the right man to lead Chelsea charge for silverware this season and believes you will see us adopt the Porto style of modern attacking football.
I posted yesterday an article stating that Pat Nevin believed we would so the same and Mata has more or less confirmed it. He said:
"He is a modern coach. I realised the first day, because the workouts are very dynamic, with constantly changing positions.(Source)
Also, we do everything with the ball. Chelsea’s style of play has an offensive mentality and prefers the 4-3-3 formation. FC Porto has demonstrated this style, with a team that matched well with the ball upright and quickly.
And Chelsea want the same. You do not want the ball only to have it, because then ownership becomes a barren exercise.”
He makes an important point. It's all well and good dominating possession of the football but you have to do something with it to win games. We have all said it before this season so far, at times we have been too laboured during games and it has been a case of keeping possession.
I have been saying this for a long time now, Chelsea are at their best playing attacking football by getting the ball into forward areas at pace. That's the reason why Mata and Meireles have been brought into the club.
We do have to remember, it's only been three games so it still takes time for AVB to get the side playing the way he wants to. Hearing from Mata, it's hopefully what we will be seeing sooner rather than later.
