One of the positives against Fulham was the fact that Romelu Lukaku got 2 hours of first team football under his belt which will benefit him in the long term. It was more than likely that he would have only played 65-70 minutes to then be replaced by Didier Drogba making his return but we all know that backfired. As a result, although seemingly out on his feet and suffering towards the end with cramp, Lukaku kept on to the end and credit to him.
After the game he said:
We have to remember he is only 18!. He isn't by no means the finished article so we had to remember that. At times maybe we have got slightly frustrated because he has put himself into really promising positions but seems to either fluff or fail to get the right connection with the ball and hasn't yet opened his account here.
That will all come in time. I remember AVB saying something like at the price, age and natural talent he has being available it was simply too good to miss. This is one kid the club needs to stick by, work hard to get his game up to speed and help develop him. We don't want to see him going out on loan, keep him here to carry on learning from the wealth of talent and experience he is playing alongside.
There are signs though of Drogba isn't there. Just imagine the player we will have on our hands in a couple of seasons.
What do you think of Lukaku this early on and how did you think he played the other night?

After the game he said:
“The experienced players were always helping me - John Terry, Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard were speaking to me almost all the time, They kept encouraging me, telling me to keep on going, and telling me what to do when I had the ball. It makes it easier to play with guys that always talk to you. They give you some kind of look, then I know what I have to do.(Source)
From the first whistle I was very focused, I think I played very well and was very helpful for the team. It was just a goal I needed, otherwise it was perfect.
