AVB: "I AM GLAD THEY ARE NOT HAPPY!"

AVB has spoken of his decision to select Fernando Torres as a substitute for last Saturday's game at Sunderland and is happy to see players being unhappy if they aren't playing.

He said:

"Any player that is not part of the squad, or not part of the selected players is not happy. I am glad that they are not happy because it means that maybe you can stimulate them to go one step further.

Or maybe you can motivate them a little bit more and when they come back to being selected or to starting in the first XI they can still perform."

He does have a point. The thing is at the moment, all the players are looking to impress the manager and cement their place within the match day squad and then into the first eleven so Fernando Torres for example will take the game on Saturday as a kick up the backside and work hard to get back into the team.

We have tremendous quality in our squad and a healthy competition for places and with the Champions League starting meaning a game every couple of days, the squad will all get their chance to impress.

I personally believe that Fernando Torres wasn't dropped at all, it was AVB's selection ahead of two big games for Chelsea with Leverkusen later tonight and United away on Sunday.

I will say this though. AVB through the media has issued a challenge to ALL the players with what he has said above. It's a simple message. If you lose your place then you must work hard and have a positive and strong attitude and motivation to win it back.

I think it's too early at this stage of the season to start talking about players being dropped, but you have to imagine how long it WILL be until it does actually happen!
