Alex - What of his Chelsea future?

I think the most surprising thing to come out of the transfer window last week was the emerging news of our final bid for Luka Modric. First of all a bid of around £40m had been reported, but according to the press, the final bid was £30m cash PLUS Alex as part of the deal.

Now I can only imagine Harry Redknapp turned it down because of two reasons. Firstly because they never wanted to sell Modric in the first place (which worked out well for us in the end anyway) and secondly, maybe because he thought he would be signing Gary Cahill from Bolton.

It never happened, the Cahill deal fell through and Alex remains at the club. So what happens now with his Chelsea future?. If these rumours are true then where does that leave him as part of AVB's plans?.

Just last month, Alex was talking up a move to Juventus by saying:

"I am aware of Juventus' interest, but I think they want to sign me on loan and this would not be a real alternative for me or Chelsea.

My agent has been contacted by Juventus, I am 29 years old and it would be a great opportunity. I would love to play in Italy and I hope I can realise this dream before I retire."

Looking at what he is saying, it's pretty much on the cards he will leave the club in January or next summer. I have to say I like Alex playing at the back. Ok he lacks pace but makes up for it in other ways.

I just wonder if AVB is looking to make a move for Gary Cahill himself and is willing to offload the Brazilian as early as January to bolster the amount of English/Homegrown players in the squad.

What do you think of the situation with Alex now? Do you rate him ahead of the likes of JT, Ivanovic and Luiz or can you see him leaving?
