ZHIRKOV THE FIRST SHOWN THE DOOR BY AVB?

After Ron Gourlay spoke the other day about potential sales at Chelsea, it seems that one is more or less and done deal and we are just waiting on official confirmation from Chelsea.

Yuri Zhirkov seems to be on his way back to Russia after a deal has reportedly been done with Anzhi Makhachkala for around £13-£15m was agreed. As I said we are waiting for an announcement from the club but it's more or less certain that Zhirkov is the first big name out the door after AVB has evaluated our squad.

I have to say it comes as no surprise really as to me anyway, his Chelsea career has always seemed to be stop/start. He could never force his way into the side ahead of Ashley Cole and Florent Malouda and because of it, found himself on the bench more often than not.

I will say though, and it is a credit to him, when he has been involved he has given his everything in a Chelsea shirt and he does leave us with a couple of great memories especially this one last season:



Anzhi Makhachkala's defender Rasim Tagirbekov said:

'Yury is a great footballer. The team are very happy that he is coming to our club. It's a very good signing for Anzhi. Zhirkov already had a chat with the head coach and almost all of the players.'

So based on what he has just said, we can consider it a done deal and although it's sad to see someone come to the club to succeed and in reality not make much of an impact, then it's understandable he would look to leave.

It's seems that AVB has taken the chance to make the first cut from the squad and let's be honest here, it's hardly surprising.

I would like to end by wishing Zhirkov in his career after Chelsea and by saying "thank you" for always giving it your all whenever you did have the chance to.
