(VIDEO) JUAN MATA: CHELSEA NOW IN PRIME POSITION?

Juan Mata is is only 23. Captain of Valencia, a Spanish International and by all accounts headed for Arsenal....

Well that was before AVB decided that Mata would be perfect for Chelsea. It seems (according to the Guardian) that Chelsea are now in pole position to make a move for the Spaniard and would pip Arsenal and Spurs to his signature.

The article states the following:

"Mata has joined Luka Modric and Raul Meireles as a target for Chelsea, who are understood to have made an informal inquiry to the Spanish club as to the 23-year-old's potential availability. The player had effectively been on the market for €25m (£22m) until 31 July but a buyout clause in his contract expired then, allowing Valencia to dictate the fee.

So it's interesting news to say the least, if it is true anyway that Chelsea and AVB are looking at other options on the wing now. I think it's fair to say that along with a creative midfielder Chelsea are short in wide areas and Mata would be perfect for Chelsea.

Based on the article itself, we would need to spend around 30m Euros to prize him away from Valenica and let's be honest, if AVB wants him, Roman will sanction a move to get him!
