John Terry is featured giving an in depth interview on all things Chelsea this coming Friday evening on Chelsea TV and in that interview he speaks of AVB giving his honest opinions. A part of that interview has been published in the Guardian this afternoon.
So, on AVB since he has come in and pre season, Terry said:
"He's come in and, really, from day one, he's been on the ball and on the button with us all. So we're all intrigued to see what he can bring over the next few weeks. If anything Terry backs up what most of us have been thinking about AVB anyway. Greame Souness gave his opinion the other day which I posted here, and my argument against Souness has been proven by exactly what JT has said.
He won't mumble on for 20, 30 minutes at a time. It's quite short, quite brief, but he covers everything, whether that be in training or in the team meetings.
One thing I've really been impressed with is the training side of things. There's a real emphasis – whether that's because it's pre-season at the moment– on the way he wants us to play, individually, collectively. We've done an awful lot of ball work, but I've been really impressed and everyone seems to understand the way he wants us to play.
Naturally, that's going to take a few more games to get it where we want to be but certainly we're implementing that every day.
Andre is a modern manager. The thing that impresses me, he understands the players. He's not old school. I've been speaking to a couple of the other lads at Villa and Blackburn. They're on double sessions and they're busting their guts basically every day. Whereas I think football has moved on a bit from a few years back, and he certainly understands that, and listens, and takes on board what we say."
It doesn't matter that AVB hasn't played the game, times have changed and if anything like I keep saying it's about the mental and technical sides of the game as much as the physical demands and that is something that AVB will thrive in.
It's great to hear that he has impressed the players as that was the most important thing for me for him to do in order to take this club forward.
His training methods are working fantastically well as we looked far sharper than Villa the other day and on another level. I have said it before, it will be really interesting to see what we are like against Rangers who would have already played 4 or 5 competitive games this season including a qualifier in Malmo tonight.
I can't help but look forward and get excited about this season with AVB as our manager.
Can you?
