Romelu Lukaku arrived into London this morning off the Eurostar and was driven straight to our Cobham training ground to have his medical. If as expected all goes well, he will put pen to paper on a deal believed to be for five years with the fee believed to be an initial £13m plus add ons that could rise to around £19m.
The signing has been one of the most reported on and drawn out over the course of the summer. At one stage it looked like it wasn't going to happen but the deal has been done and we have ourselves "the new Drogba".
More on Lukaku later once everything has been signed and sealed, but the signing makes me wonder what is going to happen to Nico Anelka?. Let's be honest here looking at the number of options we have up front.
We currently have: Torres, Drogba, Anelka, Sturridge and Kalou and later today Lukaku. It seems as though we are going with the 4-3-3 formation with one player through the middle which looks like a fight now between Torres, Drogba and Lukaku.
As I posted earlier, Sturridge looks to have nailed on his start in the team after his ban playing on the right hand side ahead of Kalou and Anelka and Malouda (after Zhirkov's departure) looks to have the start on the left.
If we are looking at cover then through the middle it would be either Torres, Drogba or Lukaku through the middle, whoever doesn't start, Kalou would fit in either side but for me he would be on the left with possibly Drogba playing in "Porto's Hulk role under AVB" to the right of the main striker.
So this leaves Kalou who hasn't impressed at all this pre season on the bench with Lukaku but I just wonder what will happen to Nico Anelka?.
Anelka have said that he doesn't want to leave the club and would be happy to let his contract run out at the end of this season, but I just wonder if AVB will tell Anelka that his future lies elsewhere?.
Whatever way we look at things, we are overloaded with forwards. Lukaku has recently said he doesn't want to come to Chelsea and be sent out on loan so you can't see that happening. Sturridge looks set to be playing alot more here this season and Fernando Torres is showing in pre season so far that he is looking far better than he was last season.
So what do you think? Could it be the end of Anelka?

Anelka and Malouda should be sold. I still don't know what those two are doing for us now. They should be replaced by pacy and creative wingers.Anelka and Malouda should be sold. I still don't know what those two are doing for us now. They should be replaced by pacy and creative wingers.
