"We can find things in players' talent that they thought they didn't have."

Today is the day pre season starts for Chelsea (apart from Ramires and David Luiz who are with Brazil) and I have to say after a long summer it will be great to see Chelsea back together and preparing for the new season.

I have had my say on AVB ever since he was appointed and so have you and it's now down to business. I re-posted an article I wrote about five things AVB MUST DO before the season starts and I do stand by the five things I have listed.

However, I have been looking back at his press conference once again and am focusing now on one of the key paragraphs from it. The reason I am doing this is because of what has also been posted on here about player ego's etc.

For every single Chelsea player, they must have gone to bed looking forward to the new season but at the same time, wondering how things will go and if they have futures at the club.

You will notice that I have stopped blogging on rumours and potential targets of late and that's purely and simply because AVB has stated on record that he wants a good look at the players he currently has at his disposal before making any decisions and this leads me on perfectly to the important other quote from AVB that I have referred to earlier.

He said:

"We can find things in players' talent that they thought they didn't have. We think there's something extra we can get out of them, so that is why we focus on ambition and motivation. That is the philosophy we have from top to bottom in all our departments. It is a question of creating empathy, motivation and raising ambitions in everybody."

It's a big big statement ahead of taking pre season for the first time with the basis of a side that has won the Premier League Title in three seasons out of the last seven years. Ok we lost our way last season but very nearly pulled of what was an amazing comeback already but to pip United would have been amazing.

It's the fact that he says with confidence that "we can find things in players' talent that they thought they didn't have" that excites me the most. Granted some players may scoff at a comment like this at the their age amongst that Chelsea dressing room with the experience they have but imagine it, taking the likes of Drogba, Lampard, JT, Cole etc all "to the next level", imagine just how good we could really be with the players we already have.

The guy's record has been amazing and we all are hoping he can pull it off here. I believe that the game these days is far more involved than just getting fit and kicking a ball around. If AVB can harness his philosophy and channel it into our squad of players there really could be no stopping us this season.

People say "it's all well and good talking to the talk but you have to back it up by walking the walk" so I wonder if Chelsea this season will end up walking the walk with the kind of swagger we all know our game has in us?.

Only time will tell!
