Reports this morning virtually everywhere are stating that Luka Modric has handed in a transfer request to try and force a move to Chelsea.
One particular article is featured in The Guardian and it states:
The breakdown in relations between Luka Modric and the Tottenham Hotspur chairman, Daniel Levy, was complete on Wednesday when the midfielder handed in a transfer request in an attempt to force through a move to Chelsea.
Modric took the step after Tottenham, who have said he is not for sale at any price, rejected a second offer from Chelsea which valued the Croatia international at £27m and followed a previous £22m bid.
As yet there is no official confirmation this morning but expect developments later today. We all know Daniel Levy's stance and looking at the situation from the outside, you can understand where he is coming from. However, now Modric has officially requested to leave the club, surely it's in their best interests to reach an agreement with us now.
From what I can make out, we have made two bids that have been rejected of £22m and then £27m this week. With Modric being signed for £16m it makes sense for Chelsea to offer Spurs £32m to double their money as this is the figure I believe Spurs would have to concede defeat, purely and simply because of the player officially now asking to leave.
I know Spurs fans aren't happy with Modric and are pissed off and I can understand that. I posted on here a while ago about the lure of the Champions League, once you play in it for a season you get the bug and want to be in it every year. It seems this is exactly what has happened to Modric and from his own personal footballing point of view you have to understand that.
I hold my hands up and admit that Spurs' Champions League adventure last year was fantastic. The club was buzzing and playing some really exciting football. Maybe (and I could be wrong here) it's the buzz of the competition that has got to Modric.
If Spurs fans are honest and realistic, it's their league form last season when you fell away that maybe has forced Modric to think about his future in addition to wanting to play in the Champions League. One week you are beating Inter Milan and the following week losing away at clubs you should be easily beating. Maybe your lack of consistency has cost you.
No matter what, the situation at Spurs now will come to a head. Spurs are well within their rights to reject the players transfer request and stick to their guns but seriously, what's the point?.
Like I said, we all are waiting for official confirmation that this has happened. If it has, then surely Chelsea will increase their bid and hopefully land the Croatian.
So with news of this official request being made, what are your thoughts on the situation now? Spurs fans, do you think Levy will stick to his guns or admit defeat? Chelsea fans do you think now is the time to offer Spurs the double your money offer I was talking about?
Honestly and realistically, what do you think will happen now? Will he stay or will he go especially after Levy saying he will never be sold?.
