Everyone has an opinion on Fernando Torres at Chelsea. We all know that Torres struggled for a number of reasons here and scoring just the one goal has put more pressure on him to do well next season.
Fernando Torres spoke earlier in the summer about his time at Chelsea and the fact that this summer is the FIRST summer he would have had off to relax with his family and recuperate. This is important to remember.
However, ex-Liverpool player John Aldridge believes that Torres will never recapture the form he had when he first signed for Liverpool. He said:
“Everyone seems to be saying he’ll be back to his best next season but I can’t see it. I don’t think Torres can get back to what he was at Liverpool two seasons ago. He’s lost a yard of pace.(Source)
He’ll score goals of course – but not one in every 1.5 games as he did when he first arrived at Liverpool and was tremendous.
Chelsea fans shouldn’t expect him to be like he used to be. It’s not going to happen.”
Now first of all why can't Liverpool fans just move on?. To still be moaning about Torres six months after the deal was done is just boring now. All Aldridge is trying to do is put extra pressure on Torres.
Torres isn't stupid and will be well aware of the expectations of him at Chelsea but I really do believe he will have a fantastic season. Like I said before, Torres is having his first summer off in FIVE SEASONS. Added to that, he will have a full pre season with the club after not having the same last season. He was injured before the World Cup, then after returning to playing was injured in the final so never had a full pre season with Liverpool.
Finally, the problem Torres had last season was that he wasn't getting the service he needs from the players and wasn't played in the right position.
I wrote an article the other week about the comments made by AVB in his press conference will be music to Torres's ears as AVB stated that he would "tune the team as a whole" and that will benefit Torres probably more than anyone at the club.
So as for Aldridge and Liverpool fans thinking that he would never be like he used to be, all I am going to say is to sit back and watch this season. Steven Gerrard made the mistake of turning Chelsea down twice and has missed out on a couple of Premier League trophies and FA Cup's.
Fernando Torres didn't want to make the same mistake as Gerrard and I am going to say on record now that he will be lifting silverware in our blue shirt this season and Torres will play a MASSIVE part in that.
Maybe Liverpool fans will then realise the reason he moved is purely for footballing reasons at a club that has a chance to win things every season.
