In a somewhat eye opening interview featured on GOAL, Chelsea's assistant, Michael Emenalo has revealed all sorts of things to how he was appointed and to why certain players struggled this season. One key point I want to pick up on now is his response when he was asked why Fernando Torres is still struggling at Chelsea?. He said:
"I can say he’s still adapting to the pattern of Chelsea at the moment due to the fact that he’s still missing the juicy passes being served to him by the likes of Alonso and Gerrard, but with time he will adapt".So why haven't the players been giving him the same service at Chelsea since his arrival? Why haven't we played to the strengths of Torres?.
I posted some time ago about the fact that Torres WILL NEVER settle in at Chelsea unless we play to his strengths and Emenalo has re-iterated exactly what I was saying back then so it's a mystery to me as why we are still saying the same thing a couple of months later!.
Of course added to this is my post yesterday about the fact that Drogba looks like staying next season and our new manager will have to try and play the two of them together and make it work in a way that Carlo Ancelotti couldn't.
I seriously believe, given a full summer to rest and a full pre season with Chelsea in July, we will see a very different, fitter and goal hungry Fernando Torres at Chelsea with hopefully the service he needs!

It's simple we don't have midfielders with Alonso or Gerrard's passing attributes (the exception is Benayoun who didn't get a game when he got back to fitness).
ReplyDeleteLampard's passing seemed to desert him last season, the others have never been renowned for their vision.
