One story that grabbed my attention last night was the reports that Roman Abramovich is prepared to enter the race to sign Cesc Fabregas. It's believed that Barcelona can only afford to pay so much for Fabregas and is below Arsenal's valuation of their captain. So you have to wonder where it leaves Fabregas?.
From a non biased point of view here you would think he would stay at Arsenal as he has done for some time now if he knows that any deal with Barcelona could be dead in the water. He is still young and has his best years well ahead of him.
However, you do have to wonder how frustrated he actually is at Arsenal with no silverware in the past six seasons. I think if you look back of the course of the season when there have been some disappointing results for Arsenal, you can see more than ever, a real sense of frustration on his face and I just wonder if it has come to a point where he just wants out anyway?.
I could be wrong here and forgive me if I am, but Arsenal fans, you have to be realistic. Fabregas has been convinced by Wenger that they were in a position to fight for the title being a year older and he bought into that last summer when everyone believed he would move away. Another season has passed and Manchester City have taken over the automatic qualifying position for the Champions League ahead of Arsenal.
So if news of other clubs being interested in Fabregas at the money Arsenal are looking for, I just wonder if we would see Fabregas ask for a move away or if he would stay.
As far as Chelsea are concerned, it seems that Roman Abramovich is an admirer of the player and would love to have him at Chelsea.
A quote taken from this website quoting the Daily Star says:
“The two players Abramovich always wanted from other English clubs were Fernando Torres and Fabregas. He eventually prised Torres away from Liverpool in January for £50million and would love to pull off a similar deal for Fabregas.
Abramovich loves the way Barcelona play but realises it would be virtually impossible to sign Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta or Xavi. But he sees Fabregas as the nearest thing to that type of player.
It would a major statement of intent if Roman made a bid of around the same money we paid for Torres. It would also be interesting to see what Arsenal make of the deal and if they would even entertain the idea.
I have said it before and have done to one of my closest friends who is Arsenal through and through, I would have sold Fabregas last summer because of the other options they had at the club. Samir Nasri could do just as well in that position, Aaron Ramsey is back now and also Jack Wilshire. By selling up Arsenal could bring in other options to replace Fabregas too.
For me if I was Roman Abramovich I WOULD make the move to test Arsenal's resolve and most importantly of all, the players resolve. At the age he is, it would a major signing for Chelsea and the possibility of Fabregas and Torres linking up together could be a partnership that could bring the ultimate prize to Stamford Bridge.
The question remains, Does Cesc Fabregas still believe he could win major titles in the next few season at Arsenal or will he look to move away?
If he does, Roman Abramovich could be a £50m bid round the corner!
