This Wednesday, Neymar and his Santos team mates will take on Penarol in the Copa Libertadores final second leg with a chance to win the competition for the first time in 50 years.
After the tournament has finished, the Santos President has said that clubs will be free to talk to Neymar about a move but would hope that he stays at the club to continue to make history.
He said:
"It is not just Madrid, a lot of other clubs in Europe have been calling us. It is no surprise, it would be strange if they didn't want him. If they pay the buy-out clause of €45 million [£39.8m] and the player wants to go, there is nothing we could do.(Source)
The clubs can talk to Neymar after the Libertadores, but I am sure that, if we win the title, the reasons for Neymar to stay will be even stronger.
I know that dizzying offers will arrive, but the player will earn more if he keeps developing here.
Next year we celebrate our centenary, we are hopeful of bringing Robinho and Diego back to the club, and of keeping Elano and Ganso, and Neymar could be the biggest star of that movie.
Santos will write a page in the history of world football that will change the lives of the footballers involved."
To me it's obvious, all the big guns will be contacting Santos and making enquiries about Neymar but it seems the message is clear. If someone meets the release clause then they are free to speak to him and Santos realise they can't stop it happening. I just wonder if Chelsea will go straight in with a bid to match the release clause to try and fend off the likes of Madrid, Barcelona and Man City coming in for him?.
It's common knowledge that Roman wants him, the player himself has stated before that he wants to come so let's hope it happens.
I guess after a few weeks of nothing but speculation it seems that this week is gonna be big after all!
