After my last post on here and the fact that Guus Hiddink's agent has said he will still be in charge of Turkey for their two Euro 2012 qualifying games in September, I just wonder now if Roman Abramovich will turn to Mark Hughes or Rafa Benitez?.
I mentioned about Hughes on here the other day and being an ex-Chelsea player and fan favourite, I wonder if that will hold any sway with the board. Hughes did well with City considering everything that was going on there at the time. He has done well in a season with Fulham but Chelsea is a different club all together. There is also still the rumour that Gianfranco Zola will come here as assistant manager and linking up with Hughes.
The thing that scares me in all this is the fact that Rafa Benitez is still lurking about in the background and his connection with the Champions League and Fernando Torres could play a huge part in the decision to appoint our manager in the coming weeks. There was a report that he had been told to "forget it" by Chelsea but I just wonder now.
Hughes doesn't have the European experience whereas Rafa has won it. Benitez has also come out and claimed that he knows how to get the best out of Nando' which bearing in mind, Roman sees Torres as an important investment at the club, could hold the key.
I wrote yesterday about Hiddink and JT speaking of the "edge" he has about him, that he is not to be messed with and I see the same in Mark Hughes to be honest. I don't see it in Benitez.
Chelsea need a strong manager right now that demands instant respect from the players, knows they can't mess with him and is not afraid to drop players or make big decisions that other people would shy away from to do what's best for Chelsea.
It all looked set for Hiddink to come here but after today's developments, we have to consider other people. I just wonder if these two are now under serious consideration?
