I think from the outside looking in and I am not being disrespectful in anyway here to him, It seemed that Carlo Ancelotti lacked the "edge to him" that John Terry speaks about when he talks of Guus Hiddink.
I think if there is one thing about Ancelotti that most of us agree on it would be the fact that you never saw him on that touchline when things weren't going our way, shouting at the players, giving them a kick up the backside to try and get them playing.
Now I could be wrong here, but the only time I ever saw any "anger" from Carlo towards his players on the side of the pitch was at Old Trafford when he was having a go at David Luiz.
For me, it's something that we should have seen more of. Being a football fan when you know your team isn't playing well, we are quick to vent our frustrations at the players from where we are in the stands, but at the same time you look to the manager for some sort of response. Like I have already said, Carlo was never like that and I am not being disrespectful in any way, I am just stating a fact.
How many time this season have we thought to ourselves "He needs a kick up the arse" or something along those lines. In an interview in the Guardian this morning, Terry reveals that Hiddink IS the man that does exactly that.
He said of Hiddink:
"He's obviously a very good guy, and someone I've been in contact with since he left as well, on a personal level. The fact that he knows us and the club means he'll hit the ground running. He knows what the players are about, what our strengths and weaknesses are, even the training schedules.
Last time he brought a lot of stability. He was a no-nonsense manager – even with the senior players – and was respected. If players turned up late for meetings, he'd leave them out of the side. No matter who it was. That was Guus, his type of character. He's very understandable and approachable as well but, at the same time, he had that edge to him that made sure no one messed with him. He was only there for a short space of time, and sometimes that can be easier, but he loves the day-to-day stuff."
We all know it's a time to rebuild at Chelsea. To lick our wounds from this season and get refocused on mounting a better challenge for major honours this season. At the same time it's important that the so called "untouchables" within the side that I think you all agree, are still held in the same light at the club, realise that they must work hard to fight for their places in the side.
It's seems to me that Hiddink ticks all the boxes and will provide the discipline at the club that we seemed to lack during stages of our season.
