At last someone has come out and said it. I never for one moment thought that I would be Salomon Kalou though I have to say. In an interview featured in The Sun, Kalou reveals what he believes is the reason to our disappointing season last term.
When asked what he believed the reasons were he said:
"Our players were preoccupied with finding out who was in the side and who wasn't. This disrupted our progress. It is better to build a team gradually than to bring in players who will pout and sulk.So I am beginning to wonder who he means. The thought of it is shocking really isn't it. We are not talking about any old footballers here, we are talking about people that are paid an absolute ridiculous fortune for training just two hours a day, sulking if they aren't playing or starting games. Whatever way you look at it, it's scandalous.
The funny thing is, Kalou is one of them. Towards the end of the season when he would play well and score goals, he would be put back on the bench. Remember Spurs at home? He came off the bench, prodded home the winner and then hardly celebrated because he wasn't happy about not playing.
I have said this before about our new manager and what Carlo never really portrayed as the man in charge. Chelsea need a disciplinarian in there, someone who won't take any shit from anyone and will demand respect from the players. Someone who will stand there on the touchline and give someone a bollocking for not pulling their weight and to let them know about it!.
Think back to the last few seasons. The whole Drogba / Lampard penalty situation against Wigan when Drogba was sulking because Lampard wouldn't let him take it. How many times have we seen JT go up to Drogba or the others walking off the pitch at half time to "have a word"?
Kalou has just confirmed what many of us thought about certain players last season. The "team" became individuals and we suffered for it. I posted on here at the time when it was happening and Kalou has confirmed it.
We always hear about the "Great team spirit" at Chelsea. Well this interview portrays a different perspective and these players need to wake up, get real and focus on becoming a TEAM again. The sooner Chelsea do that the better we will be!
