As we all know, the games in the Premier League are massive for a whole host of clubs. One of those clubs is Tottenham. Are what we all have to admit was a fantastic season for them in the Champions League, their league form has been woeful of late. Today they head into the game at home to Birmingham one point clear of Liverpool who travel to Aston Villa. Spurs currently occupy the Europa League position but any slip up today and a Liverpool win could see Liverpool pip them to European football.
It's already being reported that Spurs will have to sell some of their big name players or the players themselves will ask to leave the club to play Champions League football, so the fact that they still have a chance of making the Europa league could be vitally important for them.
However, it seems whether or not they qualify for Europe is neither here nor there as being reported in the press, Luka Modric will become the subject of a bidding war this summer with Chelsea, Man United and Man City all interested in his services.
You have to admit once again, looking from the outside in at Spurs, Modric has been outstanding and really is playing well. United would see Modric has a natural replacement for Paul Scholes, City would see Modric at the age he is as someone who could come in and add that additional creative dimension to their central midfield positions and as for Chelsea, it seems he would be perfect to replace Frank Lampard.
Figures are being reported of up to £40m which is ridiculous really for anyone let alone Modric, but with the state of football and transfer fee's at the moment and with United, City and Chelsea all with monies to spend this summer, it seems Modric could be on his way if a massive amount of money is offered to Spurs forcing their hand to accept.
More will develop on this throughout the summer I feel, and it would be interesting to see if Chelsea ARE interested and get into a bidding war for the player. At 25 years of age, and now he obviously seems settled in the Premier League, his best years are ahead of him.
If Chelsea are looking to regenerate our squad then it's my view that Luka Modric is one player we should be looking to sign!
