Now I am only blogging about this story because of the intense speculation about Ancelotti and this meeting he is having this week about his future. I have gone on record to state that I believe he should stay at the club and have the chance to rebuild and take on the challenges next season as in the two years he has been here, he deserves to.
However, the names of possible replacements continue to be linked with Chelsea and one name has re-emerged this morning. If reports are to be believed, Roman Abramovich has Harry Redknapp in mind if his "first choice" Guus Hiddink will not make a return to the club.
Like I have said, Harry Redknapp has been linked with Chelsea and after what he has achieved at Spurs since he has been there and in particular the Champions League this season, it comes as no surprise that the likes of Roman Abramovich have taken an interest in what he is doing.
It's also being touted around the net that any move for Redknapp would also include the Tottenham Chief Scout Ian Broomfield being part of the deal as Abramovich wants him to replace Frank Arnesen at the club.
When I read this initially during the season, it took me to what Harry Redknapp said when he originally left Portsmouth to take over at Spurs. He said:
"It's a big opportunity to manage a big club before I retire"
Now it's that statement alone that is key for me if this rumour becomes a reality at Chelsea. Redknapp doesn't look like he wants to retire from the game anytime soon so if he thought Tottenham was a big club what would he do if Chelsea came calling?. Now I am not saying Spurs are not a big club, what I am saying here is Chelsea have a title shot season in season out and have a great record in the Champions League.
Roman has plenty of money to spend so it would give Redknapp a better chance of title success here than it would at Spurs in the next couple of seasons and if Spurs fans are realistic, they would admit that. With previous of jumping ship at Portsmouth twice you have to really think about it.
If Roman Abramovich made an approach for Harry Redknapp and even if Daniel Levy turned it down, would Harry Redknapp want to speak to Chelsea?
