One of the key factors in our double winning season last season was the fact that our best eleven virtually picked itself. Players were playing well week in and week out with a settled formation and style of play. I think it's safe to say that we have seen a number of players under perform this season. All of them have at some stage but now we are at the business end of the season and we need to go into every game with the best possible chance to win the game.
We have the squad depth (even though Kalou and Zhirkov seem to be unhappy) and still have Alex and Benayoun to return from injury. Ancelotti will have a strong bench but he really does need to establish his best eleven and more importantly, the best formation now otherwise in my opinion, we will once more come unstuck and it could cost us this season. The question remains and I have asked this time and time again this season, what's our best eleven and formation?.
We all know that Chelsea are made for a 4-3-3 formation with the players we have at our disposal. In my opinion Didier Drogba likes to play up through the middle himself and lead the line. Fernando Torres is the same so I don't think that Drogba and Torres can play next to each other quite yet. It needs time to develop and time we do not have in the run in.
We do not have a right winger to play in the 4-4-2 formation. Ramires has played there for a couple of games and has done OK but as we all know he prefers to play in the middle. Essien prefers to play in the middle as does Lampard and Mikel.
The only wide players we have at the club are Zhirkov, Kalou, Malouda and Anelka when asked to fit in. Zhirkov was useless last night and in my view hasn't really made enough of an impact to claim a regular start in the side. Kalou is Kalou and will always give 100% but you never know if he is going to produce or flop in games at the moment.
Florent Malouda needs a kick up the arse to pull his finger out. Where has the Malouda of last season and the beginning of this season gone?. At the moment, because of his link up play with Cole down the left he has to get the nod.
Anelka is the most willing out of him, Drogba and Torres to play wide right and has been there and done that so he gets a start.
I posted earlier that we need to switch to our tried and trusted 4-3-3 formation. I have also posted about getting the best out of Fernando Torres otherwise he will never fit in at Chelsea and I have also posted on here asking if Carlo's rotation policy is having a negative effect.
I stand by every single article and in my view we need to decide on our best eleven in a 4-3-3 formation. We need to remain as solid as possible at the back, we need strength in midfield and power with and without the ball and we need width to open the game up.
My best eleven at the moment, and who I believe should be starting the next couple of games (Copenhagen, Manchester City) should be:
Cech, Ivanovic, Luiz, Terry (C), Cole. Ramires, Essien, Lampard, Malouda, Torres, Anelka.
The ONLY places that are debatable are Torres for Drogba and Alex in for someone. If and I really do mean if, Chelsea can play to Torres' strengths, then he can be just as effective as the lone striker as Drogba can. We all know what Drogba brings to the table, but at the moment and for the majority of this season he just isn't cutting it. For me the choice between the two at the moment comes down to the movement of Torres. There is no comparison. That's why I have gone for Torres.
Alex will find it difficult to force his way in ahead of Luiz and Ivanovic next to Terry. Do you drop JT? For me JT has been playing fantastic and hasn't got the credit he deserves at times. He stays in, so it's a toss up for two places between Alex, Luiz and Ivanovic.
What do you people think? What is your best Chelsea formation and starting eleven that YOU believe the Ancelotti should look to stick with for the run in?
KTBFFH.
Was really disappointed with that performance. Of course it was a precious win and three goals but that starting eleven was exactly the one I wanted.
ReplyDeleteZhirkov was a massive let down as was the drogba Torres partnership. We don't really supply our forwards all that well though in their defence.
I am one of the minority kalou fans. He gets so much stick from blues fans but he's 25 only still. One of the few players who can actually make things happen on his own. Yeah he misses a golden chance every game but remember when drogba first came and he was shooting everywhere but on target. He's obviously working hard and trying and Carlo mentioned it after the game.
I want him to start against KObenhavn and get a run of games in the side. To expect a young forward with so much talent to become a 'supersub' is an insult. He either scores or provides when he plays he works hard on the pitch and trains well. Hes never complained in all this time until now. He has so much more to offer and I hope it is at Chelsea because if he's given the chance to play week in week out without the worry of messing up everytime he's on, we will see a really special player.
Torres and Drogba with Sal on the left of the midfield four. If not then Sal and Torres up front.
