Chelsea's win last night was a fantastic win especially as coming from a goal down so early on in the game. We scored another four goals and made it three wins from three in the Premier League and played as though our confidence is growing all the time.
However, one person stood out for me above the rest of the sides good performance and that was the individual performance of Nicolas Anelka. His performance was outstanding and I believe that he has provided Carlo Ancelotti with the answer has has been looking for since Monday nights transfer of Fernando Torres was confirmed.
Nicola Anelka playing at the tip of the diamond behind the front two of Drogba and Kalou had time and space to influence the game and played fantastically well. We all know he likes to drop deep to pick up the ball and get involved in our play. He is no winger so his natural instincts are to come inside and link up the play or make a run in between defenders.
Last night playing deeper, he picked the ball up so many times and became our most influential player. He played like the shackles had been taken off and the burden of playing out wide had been lifted from his shoulders.
Questions will continue to be asked this week and have been asked since we made the Torres signing. We were all wondering if the players would step up to the challenge of knowing we now have two hungry players coming into the club to provide competition for places.
For the most part, the players put in good performances but it was Anelka that really stood out. We have seen Frank Lampard cannot play at the tip of the diamond in behind the front two and Carlo has been looking for someone to play there.
Whether or not it was because of the Torres signing or simply because he has found a position that suits his game these days, Nicolas Anelka surely has to play on Sunday.
