Hopefully (saying that with everything crossed mind you) John Terry will make his return to the Chelsea team on Saturday and for me it couldn't come soon enough. Don't get me wrong, I believe we are solid enough with Ivanovic and Alex (apart from the mistake last Sunday) but Terry being in that back line, organising and being the voice is what has been missing for me.
As I have just said it's the vocal side of JT we have been missing. I look around and there doesn't seem to be a natural leader amongst the players when JT and Lampard are not there. You want someone wearing that armband that is going to give everything for the shirt to get the right result. To fight for every ball, to give the boys a rollicking when they need one and to keep encouraging the side, keep talking and keep the side going for 90 minutes. We have not seen anything like that at all since Terry has been missing.
In my opinion, Terry brings stability, organisation as I have said and a composure to our defence. Chelsea are a much better side with Terry in the team than we are without him and sitting watching the last couple of games must have been hard on JT as he battles with this niggling injury he has had for a while now. I really hope that with the treatment he has had abroad that it has sorted out his problems and we can focus on JT back playing and to grab the team round the neck, shake us out of our bad form and take us back to the top of the Premier League.
The thing to remember is our defensive shape. Carlo and the coaching staff would be working on defensive shape (more often than not in recent weeks) and when you have players injured and unavailable it unsettles people. With JT back the other three will be safe in the knowledge he is there and they will be well organised once again.
Let's hope we aren't jumping the bandwagon on this one and he will play. Right now I have just about everything crossed that he makes it and leads Chelsea out of that tunnel, onto the pitch and to a really important three points on Saturday.
