Are we really afraid to play our football?

Carlo Ancelotti spoke after the defeat last night and it has made me question "Is Carlo right?". Ancelotti said the following:

"The bad moment continues but we have to keep going. We've lost some confidence in our play. Now we have to come back and keep going. This is football. You don't always get what you deserve. We mustn't lose composure, character, our ability. We have to maintain confidence for the future. Am I low? No, not low. I'm strong. I want to resolve this problem quickly. I'm focused on my job. I'm sure my players have that same focus.

I think we lost confidence, now we are a little bit afraid to play football, you have to keep going, you have to stay compact and prepare for the next game, This is normal and maybe we need to have a victory and now we have a great opportunity against a top team."

How on earth can we go from double winners, to starting the season the way we did to now being afraid to play our football?. Are the injuries the main reason? Looking at Chelsea at the moment you can see our confidence is shot and we need something to provide a spark to the rest of the side. Something to give us a lift. Right now we are looking for our big players such as Essien, Drogba and Malouda to provide it and it just isn't happening.
