Ancelotti wants Modric? - I just can't see it.

Now this story has broken from literally nowhere and I have to say that my initial reaction was "Spurs would never let him go!". Then after thinking that I am wondering if he did come to Chelsea then "where would he fit into the side?".

An obvious answer would be to put Michael Essien back in the holding role and play Modric next to Lampard, but then once again I had to calm myself down and get back to reality. I simply can't see this happening.

Now expect more and more rumour and speculation leading right up to the end of the January transfer window. All we hear about in recent weeks is that Roman Abramovich is going to splash the cash once again but I really do have to doubt that would be the case anyway.

The SUN are running this article about Ancelotti speaking to a close friend of Modric. The Article states:

Chelsea's boss met Modric's close pal Zdravko Mamic and told him the Spurs playmaker, 25, is top of his shopping list.

That was the sensational claim made last night by Mamic, the powerful Dinamo Zagreb vice-president, who engineered the Croatian star's £17million move to Tottenham.

Mamic said: "I was with Ancelotti for lunch. I was very proud when I heard what he said about Modric.

"Luka is top of his list, his first pick when it comes to new signings. I am not Modric's agent - I am just his friend - but I am very proud.

"I don't want to say anything more because I don't want to upset my friends at Tottenham."

Isn't it a coincidence that this article appears after Spurs have signed Rafael Van der Vaart that can play in his position, that we are near the transfer window and maybe just maybe, Spurs are looking at extending the players contract.

Don't get me wrong he is a good player, but I expect Modric to remain at Spurs and extend his contract rather than come to us.
