There has been a media frenzy today about Chelsea looking to relocate from Stamford Bridge to Earls Court. The report first appeared late last night in The Guardian. The article states that "sources close the deal" have said that Chelsea have made their interest known in the site at Earls Court with a view to building a 60,000 seat stadium.
The article also states that Chelsea are looking to "keep it quiet" as their are plans for a leading architect to transform Earls Court into 8,000 new homes.
This supposed source has said:
"The discussion is now on again, It is largely because the owners are progressing alternative uses for the site and there's lots more urgency for Chelsea to make a decision. From Chelsea's point of view this is their last opportunity to get a new ground and stay in the same area they have been in for over a century. There have been discussions about it and the club is clearly considering its next step."
However once again Bruce Buck when asked about the project replied by stating the following:
"It is very difficult for us to make the philosophical decision that we are going to move on, Certainly we wouldn't leave West London or thereabouts and there are very few sites available.I have to disagree with Mr Buck and maybe it's a smoke screen because of this option the site has with this architect.
We have to do things with our other commercial activities to make up the deficit that is created by the fact we don't have a 60,000 seat stadium. We can't say that we will never move or have a new stadium but at the moment, it's not at the front of our agenda."
Chelsea need a bigger staduim for that extra revenue to compete with the likes of Arsenal, United and even Newcastle for example. You can bet your life that Roman Abramovich knows that we need the bigger stadium and Earls Court just a stones throw from the Bridge would be ideal in his and Bruce Bucks mind.
However Chelsea fans have already set up a Save The Bridge Protest on Facebook and you can find it here!.
Expect more on this to follow in the coming weeks/months.
