I don't think any of you can deny that at some stage in the past two seasons you have wondered if Yury Zhirkov would ever really become a major part of our Chelsea side. A bit part player when everyone is fit but has come in and played an important role at times when players have been injured. This season with Lampard and Benayoun missing, Zhirkov has been given his chance ahead of Ramires as he continues to adapt to life in England and in the Chelsea squad, and Zhirkov is finally finding his feet.
With a stunning strike against Spartak Moscow and his composure and cross that set up Ivanovic's winner against Blackburn are we finally beginning to see the real class Zhirkov can add to our side?. Carlo Ancelotti seems to think so. He said:
"It's a big time for him. I think he also played well last year but now he is playing regularly. The goal in Moscow was good to improve his confidence. I thought he did well at an important time in the season also last year – especially when Ashley Cole was injured. But now he has even more confidence and is fitter because he is playing as a midfielder. He's doing a good job for the team. It's important to have a player able to have a player like that who is able to play in different areas of the pitch."Let's hope Zhirkov can continue his form in a big week for Chelsea.
KTBFFH.
Zhirkov is proving the worth (of 18 million) and i am happy that he will get to play more. He is so cool and technically sound. I am happy for him that his assist was for his best friend at Chelsea (Ivanovic). I read his short-answer interview on Chelsea's official website, thoroughly enjoyed it.
