Frank Arnesen has been quoted in THE SUN and has spoken of Roman Abramovich's support in developing from within the club. Its proof that Roman is looking at Chelsea's long term futures and not just splashing the cash. Arnesen said:
"We knew when I came the aim in 2010-11 was to have at least one player in the first team. I've always been supported from inside the club. Roman (Abramovich) has been unbelievable. There have been pressures from the outside but Roman said 'Frank I know what you said when you came. We have an agreement, you carry on'.
I was quite comfortable that one day it'd come right. I wasn't expecting players to come through two years ago -they were too young and this is one of the world's best clubs. You can't usually expect them to get through at that age. Now they are around 19 and 20, with the exception of Josh.
Can they stay in there? It is up to them, this is just the beginning."
Alot of people including myself have looked at the club and have seen our youngsters leaving the club because they are either not good enough or have little chance to try and break into the first team squad. The likes of Stoch and Sinclair have had to find futures away from the club while someone like Mancienne is out on loan again!.
So it hasn't been great and as well all know when Roman took over it has his intention to develop the squad, the club itself and the training facilities. Added to that he brought in Arnesen to help develop the youngsters so we can have more people come through from the Academy like JT.
Now you have to say, with Josh McEachran, Gael Kakuta, Van Aanholt and Bruma things are slowly beginning to pick up and these players are much more involved this season. Of course the Premier League ruling about home grown players has helped speed things up but let's hope for each and every season now we begin to see at least one player promoted into the first team squad.
Finally, with the help of Abramovich and the fact he has been given time, Arnesen is looking like he is beginning to deliver exactly what Roman wanted.
