As you all know the speculation surrounding these two and Rooney in particular has reached fever pitch right now. I have posted about Rooney & Torres and also individual posts about these two but I want to take a step back right now and see this from a Chelsea perspective alone, not from the players or their clubs situations but from purely ours.
Now before you answer and give your reasons for and against the question I am about to ask you all below, we need to realise the either of these players could be available as early as January. At least one of them will be, with another in the Summer. So judging by our start to the season and where we are now I am asking you the Chelsea fans:
Do we need Wayne Rooney or Fernando Torres?
KTBFFH
I think we should get one we might not get an oppurtunity like this ever again to get a world class striker rooney and torres are amongst the best players in the world imo. drogba and anelka are getting on not many seasons left in them we could form torres or rooney into are team so we a ready for when drogba's time is up. we will be prepared then this will help the future of are team. torres and rooney are still quite young aswell.
ReplyDeleteYes, but only for the right price. If one of them was to become available for the right initial fee and the right weekly wage then we should definitely get one. How many times have we seen ourselves toothless without Drogba, or even worse WITH an out of form Drogba. Rooney is my preference as I think him and Drogba would be an amazing combination. Rooney like to play off and Drogba at point. Both have incredible workrates and I think they could be a devastating combination!
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling Torres is going to be cheaper than Rooney - so I would lean towards him purely because of that - if we can land him for 20-25Mil and then use the rest of the money that we would probably have to spend on Rooney on some young guns like Neymar or Dzagoev.
ReplyDeleteOf course this is all based on Rooney being more expensive than Torres and all gets blown out the window if they're similarly priced! I would reckon go up to 40-45 mil max for either of them with my inclination being Rooney since he's more versatile and can play multiple positions! As we know this is fast becoming a trait of Chelsea players and tactics! In addition Rooneys work rate is insane and he counts towards the home-grown rule!
I reckon if United had signed Joe Cole, it would have really showed their ambition and Rooney would have stayed!! Hehee!Sign them both, we need four top strikers, no disrespect to Kalou who is a great impact player, but we do need to bolster our forward line as Sturridge needs a few more seasons!
ReplyDeleteAs i have said already, i would prefer Rooney over Torres because he is younger, stronger and English, and i wouldn't mind even paying him 5 million pounds extra. Drogba and Nico have few years left, Kalou and Sturridge might develop so with Rooney we can be good enough for 2/3 years. Or we may buy Dzagoev next year, he can come really cheaper than Neymar or Pato or Aguero or Higuan!
ReplyDeleteI'd say we're in desperate need for a top striker in the next couple of years.
ReplyDeleteWith Drogs and Anelka both nearing the end of their glory days and no youngster looks likely to step up, we should use these opportunities.
Rooney wont ever be on the market again (at least until he's past his best) and Torres is in a similar situation of wanting to abandon ship.
Am I the only one thinking, we might go for both?
Personally I don't think we need either.
ReplyDeleteThere are plenty of good young strikers that don't come with Rooney's baggage, Torres injuries or their wage demands.
We have a good business structure at Chelsea at the moment, why mess it up!!
I agree with Adam! But still i find Rooney bit too tempting!
