On Tuesday Ashley Cole, if he is named to start for England against Montenegro on Tuesday will equal Kenny Sansom as the most capped left back ever. Stuart Pearce has spoken of Cole and to be honest it's nice to hear someone speak favourably about Cole these days after everything we have got used to reading over the last few months.
Alot of people have their reservations about Cole and his personal life and goings on and but for me it's what he does in a Chelsea/England shirt on the pitch that matters to me and to Chelsea fans.
Pearce spoke of Cole and said:
"Ashley is the best left-back ever to play for England, 100 per cent, no doubt in my mind, He's better than me in most things. He can deal with the ball better, got two better feet. It's hard to find a weakness: his pace is a real big strength, his ability on the ball is outstanding and his defensive play has improved.(Source: Telegraph)
He's no idiot in the air either. He's playing at the highest level for Chelsea and his performances for England have been fantastic. He's a world-class performer."
There is no question of the guys class and quality. At the moment it seems that he is just getting his head down and concentrating on his football and you have to agree, even if you don't follow Chelsea, he has been outstanding this season.
So to Stuart Pearce I have to agree with you 100%. You would be hard pushed to name someone better than has played left back for England and someone better in the World right now!
KTBFFH.
His ability as left-back has long been unquestionable. People just don't like him because of his perceived greed and other off-field misdemeanors. But one aspect of his game that got rival fans' blood boiling is his apparent inability to accept the ref's decisions whenever he finds himself penalised. Turning your back when beckoned by the man with the whistle, or spitting out dissent with an expression of deep disdain will only invite sticks for possessing an arrogant spirit. Imagine what a truly great player he would be if that part is eradicated from his game.
ReplyDeleteBtw, thought I should mention that both Mail on Sunday and News of the World apologised to Vanessa Perroncel, Bridge's ex, for the crap they wrote about her "alleged affair" with JT. The Guardian has an interesting commentary on that.
